App Army Assemble: The Bug Butcher - Bringing arcade shootery to iOS and Android
Bugs are gross
Sometimes you just want to kick back and play something mindlessly silly. Well, that's where The Bug Butcher comes in - a 2D arcade shooter set on the fictional planet Zoit.
You play as exterminator Harry - who has a penchant for killing bugs - and have to save a bunch of scientists who've got into insect-related trouble.
This involves shooting, blasting, and blowing them up with a variety of insanely-overpowered weaponry. Which is pretty much all you want from a 2D arcade shoot 'em up.
And it's pretty darn good according to our review. We gave it a highly coveted Gold Award and described it as: "A bright cartoony shooter with an awful lot going for it. Grab it, shoot stuff".
We also asked our community in the App Army for their thoughts, so read on for what they had to say.

This is super fun - I love the feeling of it. The animations are fluid and it makes great use of space on screen. I struggle to hit the left arrow occasionally because of my fat fingers, but other than that the controls are pretty perfect.
I especially enjoy the dodge / run fast button. It's fun to spam it. Altogether, this game is great - I can't recommend it enough!

I love this game - it's a really hectic shooter! It does take awhile to get used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's so fun.
There's only one issue, and that's that the virtual controls are a little too small.

Has anyone found it a bit difficult to make coins in this game?
Also, I find the hard mode genuinely difficult - but it's a challenge I'm looking forward to!

A well-polished arcade shooter with great visuals, excellent effects, loads of guns, and power-ups galore. It poses a solid challenge and requires good reflexes and strategic thinking

This is a great shoot 'em up, with a ton of arcade spirit. It's basically a blend of Pang and Space Invaders but with a modern makeover.
The difficulty is fairly well balanced, and the graphics are beautiful but it lacks one thing: multiplayer.

This looks fantastic. The environments, enemies, and characters are all very well designed. I'd also recommend using headphones as the soundtrack is amazing.
The controls on my iPad worked great but being able to adjust the placement wouldn't hurt.
There are loads of awesome power ups that look great and do incredible damage. It's a great game for sure.

This is a pure, premium arcade action game with addictive gameplay, a slick candy shell, pounding beats and...oops! Gotta go - there's a giant spider trying to make off with my scientist.
