Jordan Weisman, the veteran game designer behind such notable game series as Shadowrun and MechWarrior, is about to release his second iOS and Android title.

While the renowned designer is currently working on Shadowrun Returns, a Kickstarter-enabled reboot of the classic franchise, he will also release Strikefleet Omega this Thursday, a space-based strategy game.

According to Inside Mobile Apps, this 6waves-published title will mix real-time strategy with tower defence gameplay. With Strikefleet Omega, Weisman and his Harebrained Schemes team are aiming to recreate the simplicity of titles such as Flight Control but in a full-scale strategy setting.

Strike from the shadows

The idea in Strikefleet Omega is to move units around - rather than place them down as in a regular tower defence game - all in aid of protecting your central mothership.

Each one of your ships has different abilities, so you need to carefully select where they're going to sit in order for their weapons to be fully utilised.

Strikefleet Omega is due for release this Thursday on both iOS and Android, and will be a free-to-play game. In the meantime, you can always check out Crimson: Steam Pirates, the first mobile game from Harebrained Schemes.
