Top 10 PSP and Vita characters we want to see in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

Did you see that Sony has its own version of Super Smash Bros in the works? PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will take well-known PlayStation heroes, throw them all into the arena, and watch them kick the doodahs out of one another.

Right now, the game is exclusive to PlayStation 3. But, as Sony is looking to bolster the Vita's software library, a pocket-sized instalment of this exciting series must be on the cards.

With that in mind, we've been pondering which characters we'd like to see in a potential Vita version of SuperBot Entertainment's brawler. One caveat, though: our top ten must only contain characters who have featured in PSP and PS Vita games.

Here we go, then...

Daxter (Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier, PSP)

Originally part of a double act on PlayStation 2, Daxter is a strange one. He's part-otter, part-weasel, and is usually seen hanging around with his partner-in-heroism Jak, as the two leap from platform to platform, blasting enemies along the way.

Daxter took centre stage in 2006, mind, with a PSP title of his own. He's a dab hand with a weapon - making him perfect for a Battle Royale - plus he would no doubt be more willing to run his mouth off with some stupid remarks.

LocoRoco (LocoRoco, PSP)

We know what you're thinking, but hear us out. In LocoRoco on the PSP, you don't control the characters as such, but rather you spin the world to help the LocoRoco reach their goal.

What if, then, you could use the shoulder buttons to roll a beefy LocoRoco into other characters to harm them, and even eat items and other characters to gain powers, just like Kirby in Smash Bros?

Patapon (Patapon, PSP)

We've already seen that there's a Patapon stage on Battle Royale, with Patapon running around in the background. But, what if these little critters were playable characters, too?

You could guide a small army of Patapon around using rhythmic taps of different buttons to initiate separate attacks, causing them to charge into the fray.

Nathan Drake (Uncharted: Golden Abyss, PS Vita)

Let's be honest - if Uncharted's Nathan Drake isn't in Battle Royale, then many PlayStation gamers will be shouting "WHAT?" over and over again. He's a dead cert, which can only be a good thing.

He has his pistol and his trusty blade, but perhaps more importantly, he has some slick climbing and hanging skills, meaning he will surely be able to cling to the stage more tightly than anyone else and prove difficult to knock off.

Spike (Ape Escape: On the Loose, PSP)

The PSP has been home to loads of instalments in the Ape Escape series, including 2005 launch title On the Loose. Spike may be the one who stops Specter from distributing the evil Monkey Helmet, but what if he uses the helmet to battle other PlayStation characters, instead?

Indeed, this could be Spike's power - and a strong one it would be, too, allowing him to possibly call in an army of chimps to help him fight.

Ratchet & Clank (Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, PSP)

This platforming duo must be a shoo-in for inclusion in Battle Royale, although it remains to be seen whether Ratchet and Clank will be bundled together as a twosome, or separated and allowed to fight each other.

Either way, Ratchet's blaster and Clank's brains make them a formidable partnership on the battlefield.

Crash Bandicoot (Crash of the Titans, PSP)

Another one to which we say, "There's no way he'll be left off the roster", especially considering he's been the star of over a dozen video games to date, including titles for the PSP.

Crash is also another character who is quick and steady on his feet, making him perfect for leaping from platforms and bringing the pain with his fists.

Tom Riley (Resistance: Burning Skies, PS Vita)

When it comes to picking a suitable character from the Resistance series for the Battle Royale, it's a toss-up between Lieutenant James Grayson from Retribution on the PSP and Tom Riley in the upcoming Vita version.

We're going with Riley because he's a firefighter who knows how to handle a fire axe - something that will come in handy when in close quarters combat. Plus, he's got some serious weaponry.

Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet, PSP)

We've already seen a LittleBigPlanet backdrop in Battle Royale, but it'd be rather wonderful to control Sackboy directly as a playable character, we reckon.

He would, of course, have his all-important slapping move, and perhaps he'd be able to slap stickers all over enemies to slow them down, too.

Aya Brea (The 3rd Birthday, PSP)

Heroine of the Parasite Eve series, Aya Brea brought her moves to PSP via shooter The 3rd Birthday, making her a perfect choice for Battle Royale.

Given that Aya is able to activate her Overdive ability and take over the body of her enemies, that could make for an interesting special move if it was carefully integrated with a series of kicks and punches.
