Thanks to a deal between EA and O2's parent company Telefonica, it seems that some UK mobile gamers will be getting free access to all EA Mobile games for three months.

At least that's the headline news from the press release from the two companies.

"In the UK, O2 will offer its customers three months of free access to all EA Mobile games following their first download," it says.

Spell it out

It's not very precise in terms of details, however.

What we'd expect is that "the first download" is likely to be when O2 users buy an EA Mobile game on Android, and/or possibly Java.

This will then enable you to download any of the EA Mobile games being offered through O2's deck on your phone. That might be "all EA Mobile games", or it might be all current EA Mobile games - we'd assume the latter.

Finally, in terms of when the three month promotion is over, we'd expect your access to those games to be stopped. Even if you've downloaded them, this is possible using various time-locked DRM schemes.

There's no news on exactly when the deal will go live, or whether O2 will roll out the program to its other territories.

But given Telefonica's mention of its strategic deal with EA, we'd expect something similar in O2 territories such as Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia, not to mention Spain and Latin America at some point.
