3DS + PSP

The Nintendo 3DS easily dominated the hardware sales in Japan this week despite seeing a minor slip in sales, while Nintendo itself claimed a perfect 10 of the top 10 software slots.

Sales of the 3DS slipped about 1.5 per cent, falling from 108,897 units sold last week to 107,140 sold between August 13th – 19th.

Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winning New Super Mario Bros. 2 easily secured the top software slot, selling 152,026 copies for the week – a figure which is nearly triple that of the second ranked title, Pokemon Black & White 2.

Four other 3DS titles including Demon Training combined with four Wii titles to give Nintendo a lock on the top ten.

Life on the Sony side

Despite not cracking the top ten for software this week, Sony can smile a bit as sales were up for the PSP and PS Vita alike.

The PlayStation Portable increased 15 per cent in sales this week, rising from 12,208 units sold to 14,051.

Not to be outdone by its older brother, sales of the PS Vita surged up 26 per cent from 8,805 units sold to 11,082.
