Mojang has told Pocket Gamer that the mobile version of über-popular PC build-'em-up Minecraft has been downloaded approximately 1.8 million times since it hit the App Store and Google Play (then called the Android Market) last year.

The title has also been downloaded an estimated 1.7 million times on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade platform and around 6 million times on PC. If correct, this means the indie sensation has been downloaded in one form or another more than 9.5 million times.

We gave the Android version of Minecraft - Pocket Edition a shiny Bronze Award shortly after its launch back in October of 2011, and awarded the Xperia Play version an even shinier Silver Award.

You can grab Minecraft - Pocket Edition from the App Store as a Universal app for £4.99 / $6.99 [buy], and from Google Play for £5.36 [buy].
