It might only be meaningful to a niche fanbase, but Sega has announced it will debut a Hatsune Miku rhythm game Miku Flick for iOS on 9th March.

The game, which is based around the singing synthesiser female character, will command a hefty 1,200 yen ($15) price tag and won't be a friendly experience to anyone without a working knowledge of Japanese.

Spellcraft

Transcending simple rhythm game mechanics of tapping on the right input area of the screen in syncopation with the rhythm, Miku Flick has you flicking your fingers across Japanese characters to spell out the words that Hatsune Miku sings (think Indiana Jones spelling out Jehovah in The Last Crusade).

Should you miss a word, you won't fall to your death: Miku simply stops singing and the game grinds to a halt.

Tap of Babel

Miku Flick features two difficulty modes for beginner and advanced players, although attempting to play the game without an understanding of Japanese will set the game to Expert mode from the outset.

What's unfortunate for fans of Vocaloid outside of Japan is any lack of announced localisation.

At least there's no evidence of region locking preventing a curious player in America or the EU from playing, as there is with Project Mirai, a 3DS Hatsune Miku title from Sega released on 8th March.
