Everyone's favourite spaceman (or is he?!) Samus Aran will be flying his (or is he?!) way onto the Nintendo 3DS eShop this Thursday in the shape of the original Metroid from the NES (or is - wait, yes).
This classic platform shooter has aged somewhat since its first appearance way back in 1986, but fans of the series who are too young to have experienced its roots will no doubt be interested in seeing some of the classic components like the Morph Ball come together for the first time.
It's also much harder than more modern Metroid titles. Don't say we didn't warn you.
Those that bought their 3DS consoles at launch already have the game as part of the Nintendo Ambassador program. For everyone else, it'll be available to download for £4.50 / €5.00.
Meanwhile, over in the east
Of possibly more interest to Ambassadors is the impending presence of the Game Boy classic Castlevania: The Adventure, which rises from its coffin to haunt the Japanese eShop this week (thanks, Andriasang).
Fondly remember by this particular writer, Castlevania takes the same exploration route for its 2D platforming action as Metroid, only this time you'll be mainly smacking horrific-looking creatures (well, it's an 8-bit system) with the Belmont's vicious whip.
No word on if it'll be released over in the west just yet, but hopefully it'll leap its way over later in the year.
