Australian developer Halfbrick really knows how to market a game.

It's being hyping up Machine Gun Jetpack for the last couple of months, making everyone salivate with anticipation for its mixture of hardcore action and crunchy graphics.

But, what's this we hear?

Machine Gun Jetpack is no more. Instead, open your arms for Jetpack Joyride.

Jetpack reloaded

We have to admit the title isn't as punchy, but the reason behind the name change certainly is as. As Halfbrick's Phil Larsen explains, the game has evolved so much and now contains additional content that the name was changed to better reflect this.

Notably, this means that while you can still play with the original machine gun jetpack, additional jetpacks such as the bubble gun jetpack, rainbow jetpack, steam jetpack, laser jetpack, even a shark's head jetpack will be available.

All other elements of the game such as the vehicles, collectible coins, updatable mission system, online leaderboard and social features remain firmly intact.

Even better, it's now confirmed Jetpack Joyride will be available for iPad and iPhone as a Universal app on September 1st, priced 69p / 99c / €0.79.
