SGN's F-Zero-inspired speedster Ion Racer will be zooming onto the App Store later this week.

As you can tell from the trailer below, Ion Racer is all about navigating curvy, futuristic racetracks in a ruddy nippy craft by either tilting your device or by sliding your digits over the touchscreen.

You can upgrade your ship by earning and spending Kions (the in-game currency), and you can "heal" your "wounded" ship during a race by driving in a consistently brilliant fashion.

We're most interested, however, in Ion Racer's online competition, which is made available through Game Center leaderboards and achievements. SGN is known for its robust and expansive online services, so we hope the Game Center support will eventually go deeper than just scoring contests.

As it is, the flashy graphics - which support the new iPad's Retina display - and fast-paced setup may be enough to keep us satisfied.

The Universal app Ion Racer will be available from the App Store on Thursday March 29th.
