Springloaded Software has just released a rather interesting title for the iPhone and iPad called Hiragana Pixel Party, which uses elements of rhythm-based classics like PaRappa the Rapper and Rock Band to teach you how to read Japanese.

This game features six different worlds and five different gameplay types, which challenge you with remembering patterns and tapping your device's screen in time with the game's chiptune soundtrack.

From doing this, you'll learn not only how to recognise characters from the Hiragana and Katakana alphabets, but also to read and pronounce them.

You can download this game from the App Store for free, but you'll have to cough up £1.49 / $1.99 through in-app purchases to unlock all of its content.
