iPhone X cases: maintain the perfect ten

The big Pocket Gamer accessory guide 2018 - iPhone X cases
|
Updated 3rd June: We've added some new cases to see you through the summer.

Got yourself a fancy new iPhone X? You're probably feeling pretty smug right now. And also maybe a little broke.

One other thing: you're probably paranoid. That's natural given that the iPhone X is simultaneously the most fragile and the most expensive iPhone ever built. Repair costs for Apple's fancy new phone are through the roof too.

All of which is a round-about way of justifying my next statement: you should really buy yourself a case. Even if it's just a light one that you pop on when you head out of the door.

Fortunately, there are already plenty to choose from.

Speck Presidio Grip

Speck is one of the best case makers at balancing stylish looks with better-than-average protection. The Presidio Grip is thicker and grippier than many, yet it also looks quite smart.

Totallee case

Perhaps you're a careful iPhone X user who's only concern is those scratch-prone glass and shiny metal surfaces. Totallee's super-skinny case won't provide much - if any - drop protection, but it will guard against nicks.

Suggested price: £19

Anker Karapax Touch

The Anker Karapax Touch has been getting good reviews for its low bulk and high coverage. It provides plenty of extra grip (the X is one slippery customer), and it doesn't cost the Earth either.

Silk Vault

Want some robust protection for your iPhone X with the added bonus of a holder for up to three debit or store cards? The Silk Vault is, as ever, a particularly stylish choice. Be aware, though, that you really shouldn't try to use wireless charging with this case.

Twelve South Journal

Folio cases have the obvious benefit of protecting that big beautiful - and critically exposed - iPhone X display. This all-leather number also looks beautiful, and its cover can be used as a wallet and a stand.

Suggested price: £70

iPhone X Leather Case

Apple's own Leather Case looks and feels classy whilst fitting the iPhone X snugly. Crucially, it also weighs very little. The button covers are nice and clicky, there's a protective lip around the display, and the open bottom section makes a lot of sense with the iPhone X's swipey home gesture.

Suggested price: £49

iPhone X Silicone Case

If you don't fancy Apple's leather option, it also makes a similarly proportioned silicone case. It's cheaper and won't scuff up like the leather version, though it obviously doesn't look quite as smart.

Suggested price: £39

iPhone X Leather Folio

Apple has laid on its own folio case for the iPhone X, which provides proper screen protection as well as a place to stash your cards and some cash. It'll also wake your phone when you open it. It isn't cheap though.

Suggested price: £99

Spigen Ultra Hybrid

It's a shame to put a case on the iPhone X, because it's one of the most handsome phones ever made. This Spigen case lets the design shine through whilst providing decent protection - including to the scratch-prone bottom edge, unlike Apple's cases.

Suggested price: £8.99

Ted Baker Breek Mirror Folio Case

High street fashion brand Ted Baker makes a bunch of iPhone X cases for those who like their phones to be a little more flowery. This one has the added feature of a mirror on the inside of the front cover. Or, to keep things techy, a live selfie view.

Suggested price: £35

Mujjo Leather Case

Apple doesn't have the monopoly on luxury iPhone cases. This effort from Mujjo offers a classy, plain leather construction complete with button covers and a two year factory warranty. What's more, it costs less than Apple's own Leather Case.

Suggested price: £40

Olixar X-Trio

Olixar has a good name in phone cases, and the X-Trio goes a little further than most in its efforts to protect your £1000 pride and joy. Its rugged plastic material wraps tightly around the iPhone X, going right up to the display and even covering the TrueDepth 'notch' at the top. It also comes with an optional screen protector.

Urban Armor Gear Pathfinder

This one's for those of you with active jobs or lifestyles, or those who are virtually guaranteed to drop their iPhone X while out and about. The Urban Armor Gear Pathfinder might not look pretty, but it's tough to the tune of an MIL 810G 516.6 military drop-test rating.
