Updated 29th July: New cases added.

Apple's iPhone 7 has been a huge hit, but there are still millions of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S handsets out there in regular use.

Not only have these two phones had years on the market to build up a head of steam, they also share a nigh-on identical form factor. That means that a case for one will fit the other. The result of all this: there are absolutely loads of cases for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S out there.

Here are some of the most appealing that we can see. We haven't directly featured any Plus model examples, because the general rule is that case manufacturers make the same case for both sizes.

Ampfly Speaker Case

Here's a case that actually enhances one of your iPhone's core functions. The Ampfly Speaker Case amplifies your phone's sound three-fold without the need for additional power, thanks to an ingenious plastic speaker-chamber design. It was made in collaboration with MTV, if that's of any value to you.

Griffin Reveal case

At first glance this effort from Griffin looks like a bumper, but it's actually a full case. It's just that the rear panel is completely transparent. The chunky edge ensures strong shock protection, however.

Ted Baker AW16 Card Slot Case

We feature a Ted Baker case elsewhere, but this one's for those who want something a little more sober and businesslike with which to protect their iPhone. The AW16 might sound like an automatic rifle, but it's actually a sharp folio case with an inner card slot and a handy stand facility.

TuneBand

Are you an avid runner looking for some extra phone protection? Then forget all of the other cases on this list and buy the TuneBand. It straps the phone onto your arm so it's not jiggling about in your pocket, and it benefits from a comfortable, flexible fit.

Gear4 D3O Jumpsuit

Gear4 has a way of making particularly funky material choices with its iPhone cases. The D30 is a case in point, offering a snazzy orange shock-resistant bumper. It's cheap, too.

Jean Paul Gaultier Striped Sailor case

Many of the cases out there give your phone the kind of utilitarian looks that you suspect would give Jony Ive nightmares. This stylish little number from famous fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier is a lot more stylish.

Apple Leather case

Naturally, Apple knows the dimensions and lines of its phones better than any third party case manufacturer. You won't get a better-fitting or more harmonious design than the Apple Leather case - though it'll cost you.

Ted Baker SS16 Ethereal Posie

This is for the fashion lover in your life, or for those to whom all that exposed metal is just too geeky and industrial. Fashion label Ted Baker's effort adds a splash of colour and glamour to proceedings.

Incipio NGP

It's tough to distinguish between many of these sub-£10 cases, but the Incipio NGP has attracted very strong reviews from people who generally know a lot about these things. It's tough, light, grippy, and allows easy access to all the buttons.

STM Harbour

The trouble many people have with cases is that they don't play nicely with speaker or car docks. The STM Harbour gets around this by adding a hinge that allows unrestricted access to the bottom of the phone.

InkCase i6

This clever little case adds a second screen to the back of your phone. It's not just any screen either, but an e-ink display (think Kindle) that's great for reading books on.

X-Doria Defense Lux Rugged

This one's tough, with military grade drop protection that includes an aluminium rail bumper. It'll survive a drop onto concrete from two metres.

Cover-Up WoodBack

Here's another case that uses real wood for an unusually natural feel. This time it's blackened ash that's been used.

Native Union Soft Touch Clic Wooden Case

There's a lot of plastic involved in smartphone cases, and a fair amount of leather and metal too. This little case changes things up through the use of real wood, with a classy and sustainable solid cherry or walnut wood finish.

Jon is a consummate expert in adventure, action, and sports games. Which is just as well, as in real life he's timid, lazy, and unfit. It's amazing how these things even themselves out.
