Massive Joe's gorgeous heavy metal colour-coordinated arcade endless runner Escape from the Age of Monsters out on iOS soon

Escape from Age of Monsters, the highly anticipated sequel (of sorts) to Massive Joe Studios' Age of Monsters – Rock, Paper, Scissors will be available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch on 26 April, according to publisher Ayopa Games.

Backed with rawking music from US/Japanese outfit The Binges, the 2D sidescroller brings a couple of twists to traditional endless runners a la Canabalt or Temple Run.

Colour clash

Players dash through crumbling buildings, with small children in tow, punching through walls with impeccably-timed taps for as long as possible to score as many points as possible.

These are organised in red and blue tones, with you having to tap on the left side of the screen for red obstacles and on the right for blue.

There are also collectible power-ups you have to swipe over, but if you crash into a hazards, the monster chasing you from the left of the screen will capture one of your children until you run out and it's game over.

Outside of its gameplay features, Escape from Age of Monsters also stands out for its lush illustrations by acclaimed comic book artist Jeff Matsuda, who served as the producer and creative director of The Batman cartoon series that ran from 2004 to 2008.

Sharp-eyed players may notice his giant, ravenous angry birds amongst other twisted denizens.

Escape from Age of Monsters will launch in two flavours: HD (iPad) for $1.99 or regular (iPhone/iPod) for 99c.

As a special promotion, both will be priced at 99c for launch.
