Formally announced in November 2011, DeNA and Daum have launched Daum Mobage, a localised version of DeNA's Mobage social gaming platform for South Korea.

It's available in 19 games which are now live on Android Market.

Daum has 38 million users and they can sign into Daum Mobage games, which offer avatars, status updates and other community features, using their existing IDs and passwords.

Launch wave

The platform is based around free-to-play games and the Moba-coins virtual currency. Payment for these can be made using carrier billing or credit cards through Daum's mobile payment system.

The two companies are aggressive targeting the market; they have plans for get 10 million users within 12 months.

Launch games for the platform in Korea include Ninja Royale, We Rule, Kaito Royale and Tap Fish from DeNA's studios and The Playforge's Zombie Farm.

Frictionless

Developers can create content for Daum Mobage using DeNA's ngCore JavaScript engine. The platform also uses the same API as Mobage in Japan, allowing Japanese developers to easily port their content to Korea.

DeNA plans to open a Korean-language developer site in March to support Mobage SDKs using other game engines such as Unity.

Daum is Korea's most popular web portal and mobile platform. Its MyPeople mobile messenger service has over 16 million users and its AD@m mobile advertisement network has over 15 billion monthly page views.
