X-Bow - Clash of Clans Complete Guide to Defenses

The X-Bow is a high-level, rapid-fire weapon new players won't be seeing any time soon, but it's something to aspire to.

It boasts the unique ability to be set to target either ground and air, or just ground units (the range alters accordingly), and has to be topped up with Elixir in order to function.

Range: 11-14 tiles
Attack Speed: 0.128s
Damage Type: Single target
Targets: Ground & Air (11-range), Ground (14-tile range)
Size Requirement: 3x3 tiles

Defensive tactics

Its massive range (even in shortened ground & air form) logically suggests a central positioning, where it can inflict the most amount of damage over the longest amount of time.

If you're confident in your air cover, consider keeping your X-Bow aimed at ground units only - its range and power can be devastating against smaller troop units.

The upgrade times and cost may be exorbitant, but the benefits of using the X-Bow as the core of your defense are undeniable.

Level Damage Per Second Hit Points Loading Cost, Elixir Upgrade Cost, Gold Upgrade Time Town Hall Level Required Build Number Allowed
1 50 1500 50,000 3,000,000 7d 9 2
2 60 1900 60,000 5,000,000 10d 9 2
3 75 2400 70,000 7,000,000 14d 9 2
4 80 2800 80,000 8,000,000 14d 10 2

Offensive tactics

This is a seriously dangerous unit, not so much in terms of damage-per-second rate (which is comparable to a high-level Cannon - at a fraction of the cost, no less) but because of its rapid-fire attitude.

It can decimate large crowds of troops in a terrifyingly short amount of time so plan your (exceedingly brutal) attack very carefully.

Note that you can determine whether an X-Bow is set up for ground-only or ground & air defense by simply looking at it (if it’s angled up, best not send your Balloons in). Equally, you can tell if it’s loaded by spotting if there is any Elixir in the ammo chamber. If it's empty, happy days.
