Exozet has told Pocket Gamer that it is working on bringing the third major expansion pack for the Settlers of Catan boardgame - Cities and Knights - to iOS later this year.
Cities and Knights is my personal favourite of all the Catan variants, taking the (relatively) peaceful trading game and increasing the nastiness tenfold.
You and the other players are now always at risk of being attacked by the barbarian hordes from across the ocean, which can lead to some extremely sneaky backstabbing at the last minute.
Woods for the trees
In addition, tech trees and (often vicious) new cards mean that a turn rarely goes by without at least someone stealing your wood.
To help you out, there are also new units and upgradable knights, as well as the new Metropolis cities (that can be built near the end of the game).
Details on whether it’ll be an in-app purchase or a separate title are sparse at the moment, but we should expect to see Catan: Cities and Knights on iPhone and iPad in some form or another later in the year.
Catan Cities and Knights: Your Achievement in the game!
Development of the next add-on is progressing well and we’re close to the beta test (news on this shortly). While we continue polishing the AI, we’d like to invite you to make suggestions for the new achievements included in the expansion. Post your suggestions as well as a short explanation why you think the achievement should be included in this topic.
We’ll then choose the ten best suggestions (together with our development partners at exozet and Catan Inc.) and set up a poll where you can vote for them. The achievements that get the most votes will be included in the Cites and Knights expansion!
The first 5 suggestions will get a download code for our game “Ingenious”!

If you have the board game, I'd skip over Seafarers and head straight for C&K - it really changes the whole feel of the game (for the better).
Best moments are easily where the leading player for the defence of Catan (all players' knights are added together to calculate the strength of the force used to repel the barbarians) 'suddenly' decides to use one of his/her knights the turn before they attack, thereby leaving the player with the fewest defenders in the army at the mercy of the horde (they lose a city).
So many arguments and fall outs over that tactic. So satisfying to do :-D

Awesome. I've not played any expansions for Settler of Catan so I look forward to getting this.
