Activision Leeds developing new Call of Duty games for iOS and mobiles

According to UKIE chairman and industry expert Andy Payne, a mobile version of Call of Duty is currently in development at the recently founded Activision Leeds studio.

In conversation with VideoGamer, Payne revealed that Activision Leeds is, in fact, going to be responsible for all future mobile and handheld versions of the multi-million-selling FPS. What isn't clear, though, is whether Activision Leeds will be developing Black Ops: Declassified for the Vita.

Previous titles in the Call of Duty mobile canon were handled by Ideaworks Game Studio, and while they were very well received (Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies scooped a coveted PG Gold Award, for example), the shift to an in-house developer will give Activision Leeds access to the library of assets that's shared between the creators of the CoD franchise.

Rockstars

One more thing... the decision on the part of Activision to establish a studio in West Yorkshire - the home of Rockstar Leeds - was no accident.

"They [Activision] kind of always wanted to get the Rockstar team," Payne said.

"They wanted some of the Rockstar guys, yeah. Well it's smart, because Britain's pretty ahead in mobile programming. We're pretty good at it. Yet again, we're good at it but we don't talk about it too much because we're British."
