Are you looking for a reason to justify the purchase of a shiny, new Nexus 7 tablet?

If you're a fan of Gameloft's popular Asphalt series of racers, we'll give you all the justification you need: the upcoming Asphalt 8: Airborne is optimised specifically for Google's new slate.

With a GPU four times more powerful than the one found in the original Nexus 7, there's little doubt that Asphalt 8 will look a treat on the next gen Nexus - but how will it play?

Gameloft's highly-touted new physics engine for Asphalt 8 will no doubt benefit from the OpenGL ES 3.0 3D graphics of the new Nexus 7, as drivers will be literally driving up the walls and performing new tricks off of them.

Having that sort of enhanced graphics performance behind the new physics engine will certainly help sell it to the eyes of aspiring wall-drivers.

The new Nexus 7 will go on sale in the United States on July 30 and should come to the UK a few weeks later. We don't have a firm release date for Asphalt 8: Airborne just yet, but we know it will cost 99c / 69p and will feature 180 events with 47 licensed cars.
