Apple introduces new 99p price tier to its UK App Store

Have you visited the App Store today? If so, did you notice anything different about it?

We're asking because it looks like Apple has introduced a brand-new 99p price tier to its ever-busting digital marketplace, giving developers a chance to earn a little more cash for their wares.

Now, we have some good news and some bad news for you.

The good news is that this new 99p price tier won't completely replace the 69p price tier to which you're all no doubt very much used.

This new tier is completely optional, and developers can choose to ignore it if they wish.

The bad news is that developers aren't ignoring it.

In fact, several apps (including Gold Award-winning puzzler Bridgy Jones) that were available for 69p just yesterday are already now priced 99p.

In case you're wondering, 69p apps in the UK are still 99c in the US. 99p apps in the UK are, well, 99c in the US, too.

Make of that what you will.
