Drill to victory

Mr Driller's going underground to the App Store

Mr Driller is hardly one of Namco's top characters but the cheerful mole-like maniac has been popular on handheld with appearances for DS and mobile, and now he's surfaced on iPhone and iPod touch.

The gameplay is a twist on match-4 as you drill down through blocks of various colour - quickly to ensure you don't run out of air or get crushed, but in such a way as to create coloured combos to get extra points.

There are three game modes - Survival, Arcade and a 10 level Time Trial.

Bizarrely though, the controls aren't touch-based but use the dreaded virtual D-pad.

Facebook Connect enables you to share your scores with the outside world.

Mr Driller is available now, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p. Hit the Buy It! button to drill directly down to his current position.
