RAZR to the Power of 3G

The thinnest handset in the world bulks up for its worldwide 3G debut in Europe

How’s about this for a change: Europe, along with Asia, will be the first market in the world to get its collective 3G mitts on the latest RAZR handset from Motorola, the 3G compatible V3x. Perhaps surprisingly, such is the mobile market in Europe; we’re actually ahead of North America in terms of mobile phone coverage and technology and, as a result, Motorola’s new 3G handsets arrive here first.

While the new RAZR isn’t as slim as it used to be, it’s still not too bulky. Weighing in at 130g, it’s a few millimetres wider and longer than the original’s 98cm by 53mm frame and roughly half as thick again. One of the reasons for the increase in bulk is the addition of a second camera underneath the screen that points at you for video calling.

It’s still a looker, though, and will be available in three colours. 3 will be offering a liquorice black model and Vodafone a silver version, while a cosmic blue edition will be available from other networks.

The RAZR V3x is part of a trio of new 3G phones from Motorola which also includes the clamshell E1070 and candybar E770v, which will be a Vodafone exclusive. Look for all three to become available by the end of November.
