European mobile carrier Motorola has confirmed plans to update Android devices to the latest 2.2 (Froyo) operating system by Q4 2010, hopefully getting ‘droid users on Motorola up to speed before the year is out.

Froyo, which includes Adobe Flash 10 support and USB tethering, was officially launched back in May of 2010, but users on some carriers have had to hold out longer.

Android customers on slow carriers have been known to install leaked and unofficial versions of the latest operating system update, instead of waiting for the manufacturer to get around to it.

Motorola isn’t happy, though, and has allegedly sent cease and desist notices to websites carrying the unofficial file. My Droid World has published a letter from Motorola’s Senior director information security, Richard Rushing, urging the website to take down the problem file that gives the Droid X its 2.2 feature bump.
