Independent developer Paul Carruthers has scooped the MOTODEV prize for Best Java Game with his puzzler Monkey Pole Climb. He'll now see the game published by I-play, which sponsored the competition.

But hang on a minute, doesn't that game title sound familiar? Well, yes: Monkey Pole Climb won the Best Gameplay gong in the last-but-one IMG Awards, which were given out in February 2006.

We loved the game then, but it seems a bit strange that it's still winning awards as an unpublished title 18 months later. Still, congratulations to Paul, who (hopefully) revamped his creation in between those two awards.

Related to this, MOTODEV also gave an award for the Best Windows Mobile Game, and this went to Fire Hawks, a vertical-scrolling shoot-'em-up developed by Chen Jianbo. It too gets an I-play publishing deal.
