Wild speculation ensues

May 19th is a date that gamers all over Azeroth are currently counting down to. Why? Well nobody is specifically sure yet – all that is known is that World of Warcraft developer, Blizzard, is going to make what is touted to be a huge announcement on that day.

But why should mobile gamers care? Isn't World of Warcraft a hardcore PC game, facilitating the use of a keyboard and a mouse? Yes, sure, but if some recent openings in the Blizzard recruitment camp are anything to go by, then mobile gamers might also be getting a slice of the world's most popular MMORPG in some form before long.

Blizzard has recently started advertising for new staff, including a mobile producer, a lead mobile software engineer, and a lead mobile UI designer. Whether these positions are some sort of indication of the announcement later in the month remains to be seen, but their being advertised does warrant some fun predictions.

Kotaku, for instance, has been speculating that money bags Microsoft has finally managed to persuade Blizzard to make a version of World of Warcraft for the Xbox 360, and that the mobile staff positions are required to develop some sort of Live Anywhere content for mobiles.

What we're much more hopeful of is an earth-shattering announcement concerning a certain Apple-developed mobile phone and a full-on mobile Mac OS version of World of Warcraft. The timing would make sense in relation to the iPhone's imminent release, but we concede it's probably not one to hold your breath for. Still, stranger things have happened in the world of elves and men.
