Official mobile pool game racks up

World Championship Pool 2009 3D announced for mobile

Pool tables might just be somewhere else to put your pint down over here in the UK, but in the US it's got an official World Championship event.

The official game of the 2009 World Championship Pool competition has therefore been announced by I-play; promising a host of realistic features along with some impressive new 3D visuals.

Compete against 32 of the world's best players in Arcade mode (a series of challenges striving for a bronze, silver or gold medal) or choose your rules and take part in a knockout contest in Championship mode. Three types of game are also available, including US 8Ball, US 9 Ball and UK 8 Ball.

A stats-gathering feature allows you to increase your level as you work through the Championship, and a two player 'pass-and-play' mode adds a bit of human interaction to the green felt and ivory action. There's also talk of support for touch screen phones, though right now we don't have the details of exactly which handsets this is referring to.

Pot the 'Track It!' ball now, as we should have a preview hands-on very shortly.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
