GTA may be selling like
hotcakes right now, but it’s got a long way to go if it wants to catch the granddaddy of mobile gaming.
The venerable
Snake, first released in 1998 by Nokia for the 6110, has been played by an estimated 1 billion people over the years, making it the ‘most played videogame of all time’, according to
Guinness World Records 2010 Gamer’s Edition.
Different versions of the game have been bundled with nearly all subsequent Nokia phones, which makes the accolade slightly less impressive given Nokia’s massive market share.
Nevertheless, it’s still an huge feat and has undoubtedly helped shape the evolution of gaming.
