New York gets a True Crime wave

Can ex-gangsters really become police officers? You'd think there'd be a set question in the interview process to weed them out – say, "Have you ever whacked some punk-ass mook to protect your crack-smuggling operation?"

Seemingly not, judging by Hands-On Mobile's new game True Crime: New York City. The follow-up to last year's True Crime: Streets of LA sees you playing a gangster-turned-cop, tasked with cleaning up the Big Apple.

Hands-On is making great play of the open-endedness of the new game, which will apparently let you choose whether to be a good cop or a bad cop. There's also a random mission generator, which throws up everything from robberies and hostage dramas through to muggings and bank heists.

True Crime: New York City is out now in the US, so should be coming to Europe soon. We'd quite like to see the series visit London next time round – even if the idea of missions where you give directions to bemused tourists isn't quite as adrenaline-boosting.
