Is it still accurate to call Tron a futuristic movie? The film – and its vision of computer gaming – was unveiled nearly 25 years ago, after all. We're living in that future now, and thank goodness we still don't have to wear those dreadful silvery jumpsuits.

Anyway, whether sci-fi shocker or retro blockbuster, Tron is back in a new mobile game, Tron 2.0 3D.

We won't dwell on the silly plot, which follows the gloriously silly movie in seeing you banished into a permanent video game world (as if you didn't live in one already), from which the only escape is to win a load of races.

You do this by driving your Light Cycle, a vehicle that leaves a laser-like trail in its wake. By watching where you're going, you try and force your opponents up against the walls of the arena in what sounds almost like a spiritual throwback to Snake – albeit with turbo boosts, missiles and shields added into the mix.

As you'll guess from its name, the arenas in Tron 2.0 3D are all in three dimensions; the Tournament mode challenges you to work your way through them, tuning up your cycle between races.

Sounds odd? Like the movie, we expect this is the kind of thing you need to experience to make your mind up about, and we hope to bring you a review soon. (Well, once we've managed to escape from our own all-consuming world of rival videogames, that is.)
