The Oregon Trail will allow players to take the journey in real life with the new Healthkit integration and Apple Watch App

The Oregon Trail is one of Apple Arcade’s most popular games after being downloaded the most number of times on the service last year. It takes players on a long and educational journey full of adventure and fun. It sees players take control of a wagon with a little family inside. They must keep their health and spirits, while also maintaining the condition of the oxen pulling the cart and supplies.

But today Gameloft and HarperCollins Productions have announced another massive update for The Oregon Trail - Healthkit integration. With this update, players can now link their gameplay to Apple’s own Health App to transform the game into a real-life journey as players' actual steps count towards the Trail. Alongside this integration, Gameloft is launching a new Apple Watch app called The Oregon Trail: StepTracker as well that is capable of counting daily walks, runs, and wheelchair pushes through the States.

There are many more features to make the entire experience more immersive as well. The game will feature a digital representation of real-world locations, movement progress and statistical data, summaries, avatar customization, and a tonne of rewards. Diehard walkers who want to go all-in can literally complete the entire 2,000 miles of the Oregon Trail featuring five journey legs, 64 locations, seven forts, 15 river crossings, and eight pony express stations. There is so much to see on this massive journey. Even walking 10,000 steps a day would make it take over a year to complete it.

This new integration paired with the Apple Watch app allows for much greater fine-tuning. Players will be able to own pace, walking, running, or wheeling according to their own fitness levels and routines. Plus the graphics make it so much better.
