Like Sin City crossed with Sooty and Sweep for the YouTube generation, The Imp is the sort of short animation that the internet was made to deliver. The fact it's voiced by Green Wing and Barclaycard's comic duo Julian Rhind-Tutt and Stephen Mangan is the icing.

For, he, The Imp (Mangan), is waiting to turn the whole world eeevil, while long-suffering sidekick Bob (Rhind-Tutt) just cleans up the mess he leaves behind. Throw in various other characters – clueless henchmen Bertrand & Philippe, Cat-Thing, The Glove, The Boss – and you have plenty of happy minutes to spend watching the monochrome action play itself out.

And now it's spreading itself over to mobile gaming.

Dundee-based Tag Games in charge of development and promises the game – officially The Imp: Episode 1 – will feature the series' characteristic wicked sense of humour as The Imp must fulfill The Boss' mission to complete enough evil deeds to prove his wickedness before sunrise. Once again, he has failed to meet his quota of badness.

And if that wasn't enough to get you interested, point-and-click adventures such as Monkey Island and Sam & Max have been referenced as inspiration, while the gameplay will also include action and puzzle-solving elements.

Frankly though, the thing we can't wait for is the audio. After all The Imp does famously have the most evil ringtone in the world. If only someone would call him…

The Imp: Episode 1 is due for release in 2009. Meantime his online home can be found at theimp.tv.
