Cellufun has unveiled Space Wars, its first massively multiplayer mobile game (MMMG). At least, that's the phrase it's using to describe it.

The game is a traditional space-strategy title, which sees you building fleets, researching technologies and conquering other planets. However, the selling point is the ability to play against up to 120 other players in real-time.

Space Wars is already available in beta form, and has apparently attracted around 1,500 gamers so far, generating nearly a million page views.

Eh? Yes, page views. It's actually a WAP game, not a downloadable Java title.

"The Space Wars experience is far-reaching and long-lasting because it offers interactive features not normally seen in multiplayer battles," says Cellufun CEO, Arthur Goikhman. "We've seen our beta testers take unprecedented and creative approaches to the game, such as launching coordinated attacks in waves."

It's certainly intriguing, and we're going to be looking in more depth at WAP games in a feature soon, to find out what they're all about. For now, you can have a go on Space Wars by pointing your mobile browser to wap.cellufun.com and clicking through to the WAP games section.
