Embedded in millions of Nokia series 40 and 60 phones, Nokia's Content Discover portal (the infrastructure behind your network operator's downloads WAP site) has been enabling handset owners to get their mitts on all sorts of digital goodies for ages. But for the first time Nokia is now making its range of SNAP mobile multiplayer games available for download through the service, too.

The portal "provides a powerful tool that makes it easy for mobile subscribers to experience connected multiplayer gaming on millions of handsets based on the world's leading mobile device platforms," explained Petteri Putkiranta, Nokia's charmingly-named spokesperson.

"Connected mobile gameplay with friends is a fast-growing trend in mobile entertainment and this now provides a quick and efficient way for gamers to find, try and purchase the latest multiplayer titles," added Lisa Waits, head of Nokia's SNAP Mobile unit.

SNAP, a proprietary Nokia technology, has been developed to enable Java game developers to more easily create simultaneous online multiplayer games that aren't dependant on a high-bandwidth 3G connection. SNAP games are still relatively thin on the ground but the few that do exist cover all the popular multiplayer gaming bases, 3D Pool Hall, NitroSpin Racer, Space Alliance and Micro Soccer being just four.
