Racing Shooter 2 for 1

Though it might not be the most imaginatively titled mobile package you've ever come across, Racing Shooter 2 for 1 does at least leave you in no doubt as to what to expect.

EA's combo feels like the ultimate boy's toy, uniting IronMonkey Studios's acclaimed Medal of Honor with the most recent entry in the Need for Speed series: Hot Pursuit.

Naturally, the two titles differ wildly in terms of content, but they manage to form a tight, complementary unit, largely thanks to their common - and unashamed - 'no holds barred' approach.

It also helps that there's a certain symmetry between guns and fast cars – two things that, as every prepubescent lad will tell you, girls simply find irresistible.

Short and sweet

What makes Racing Shooter 2 for 1 an all the more compelling prospect is the fact that both games serve up some of the best action their respective genres have to offer.

Medal of Honor, in particular, plays out like one big spectacle, with its top-down 3D approach to warfare delivering action to order.

As detailed in last year's review, Medal of Honor's highly scripted set up might limit the game's replay value, but the execution and composition of its set pieces more than compensates.

"Though it might appear Medal of Honor offers the standard succession of shooting and running for cover, there's a genuine craft to the design of the game's levels," the original summary stated.

"Avoiding your foe and waiting for the right time to attack is just as important as simply firing at anyone and everyone that moves.

"Sneaking around machine guns rather than taking them on directly is a common requirement, for instance, while it's also key to prioritise targets when taking on a whole band of enemy troops rather than firing indiscriminately."

Two become one

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit never quite hit the same heights as Medal of Honor when it left the virtual pit lane in 2010, but its split approach – charging you with both speeding away in a series of sports cars, and later chasing down those same bad boys whilst dressed in the colours of the force – means it's not short on variety.

"Sporting some of the flashiest visuals you're ever likely to see on mobile – they will, genuinely, make your jaw drop a little - the game delivers exactly what you might expect: casual handling, with nitro boost on offer should you partake in some risky manoeuvres along the way," our original review read.

"Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit doesn't skimp on action, with the stability and familiarity of the standard races offset nicely with the tactical edge that taking to the cop cars brings about – road blocks and stingers are all part of play."

Indeed, what cements Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Medal of Honor's relationship is the shared desire both games have for packing in the action without overloading the player.

Served up together as a single download, Racing Shooter 2 for 1's appeal will likely extend long beyond the initial hunger for just cars and guns.
