  • Don't despair if you get off to a bad start in one of your matches. The carefree nature of play means that often your competitor will allow you a free shot while he or she goes to check out something else going on at the party.
  • Always think about the shot after the one you're currently taking; if you plan on sinking a ball in a pocket, you need to focus on where you need the cue ball to end up in order to pot the next ball. Or, if sinking a ball is beyond you, try and make sure the cue ball ends up somewhere on the table where your opponent is going to find it equally hard to find success. Changing the spin on the ball – controlled by where you strike the ball with your cue – is the key to this.
