Old School Racing isn't quite as charming as you'd like it to be. It shows promise, with a neat menu system and a unique style, but in the end it gets a little squashed underneath poor controls and some balancing issues.
No school
As you might imagine from the title, the game is all about driving old-fashioned cars around a series of tracks. Acceleration is handled automatically so all you need to worry about is making sure you take the corners right by pushing '4' and '6'.
The biggest factor you need to worry about is damage. Hit pretty much anything on or around the track and your phone will vibrate violently. Take too many hits and you'll be left crawling around the track at a snail's pace.
You can pick up repair kits to fix your car, though, as well as speed boosts and other helpful power-ups. The first few levels are pretty easy, but it doesn't take long for the game to take a jagged turn into what feels like unfair territory.
In need of schoolingCouple that with handling that's unfriendly at best and destructive at worst and you're left with a racer that's not entirely broken, but never lives up to the promise of its polish.
