Poker is ideally suited to multiplayer mobile gaming. It's turn-based, so there's not so much worry about your connection dropping out for a moment and leaving you floundering, as you would be if playing, say, a racing game or beat-'em-up.

There's already a number of multiplayer poker mobile games, even if some of them have these features stripped out by the time they reach the UK.

Concrete Software's new game, Multiplayer Aces Texas Hold'em, is US-only for now, and it's got some techy innovation up its sleeve to take on the competition.

The basic multiplayer mode lets you test your bluffing skills against other players over the network, with a full chat mode included so you can taunt them (or ask for advice if they're bleeding you dry). There are different-sized tables to play on, a nationwide high-score table, and all manner of statistics.

Most excitingly, the game uses GPS technology, letting you find other players in your local area to play against. Which sounds cool, although its success will depend on lots of people owning the game to ensure there's enough people playing at any one time.

Still, it's another sign that as more GPS-enabled phones get into people's hands, games will be able to make use of the location-based technology.
