Taito to release an air guitar game for mobile phones
Proper air guitar, too, thanks to motion sensing
The problem with motion-sensing mobile games is that, unless they just involve gently tilting a handset, they make you look a bit silly if you play them on public transport. It's all very well being able to swing your phone like a tennis racket, but you'll be banned from London Underground in no time.
Taito's just-announced Intuition Band game falls foul of this law, but in a way that's so bonkersly genius that we want to play it anyway. See, it's an air guitar game, where you actually widdle your frets in mid-air to riff like a rawk legend.
It uses your phone's camera to interpret your movement, apparently, and will be available on NTT DoCoMo's 904i series of handsets in December (as part of the Japanese operator's Chokkan series of games, which you may remember from our recent article).
Oh, sorry, yes: the game's coming out in Japan. However, the fact that it uses the camera, rather than built-in gyrothingies, means in theory that we could see something similar here in the west.
Here's hoping, anyway.
