Guitar Hero Mobile steps out of the shadows

Hands-On's new game reminds us a bit of Guitar Legend

Guitar Hero Mobile steps out of the shadows

Oh, hang on, that's the wrong way round. Gameloft's Guitar Legend was, of course, a pretty shameless mobile version of the marvellous Guitar Hero console game, except without an official licence.

However, Hands-On Mobile has the rights to actual Guitar Hero, and according to this CNET report was showing off the mobile game at the CTIA show last week. It's due out in the US in December, although there's no news yet on a European release.

Anyway, the game enables you to play as two characters – Axel Steel and Judy Nails – with four guitars and 15 songs on offer. In the US, players will be able to download three new songs a month by signing up for a subscription. Sadly, don't hold your breath for that option here in Europe.

The game apparently only uses three keys rather than five, which should make it easier than the fiendish latter stages of Guitar Legend. CNET played the BREW version of the game, which has top-notch audio. We're hoping the Java version sounds good, too.

Anyway, with the console release of Guitar Hero III imminent, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for more news of the mobile game. Click 'Track It!' to get an alert when we post it.
