Guitar Hero Mobile set to rawk out on phones

Guitar Hero Mobile set to rawk out on phones

One of the more intriguing sessions at next month's GDC Mobile conference in San Francisco is a speech by a company called Sonivox. The title: 'Guitar Hero Mobile: A Blockbuster Comes to the Little Screen'.

Yes, that Guitar Hero, the marvellous console game that has you busting riffs with a plug-in axe peripheral. That's axe as in guitar, obviously, not as in sharp thing to cut trees down with.

The story has already been reported elsewhere, but we wondered how Guitar Hero might look when it comes to mobile.

And happily, there are some clues on Sonivox's own website, where the company has info on one of its demonstration games, called PyroSonix (pictured here), which won an award last year in a development competition sponsored by Motorola.

Here's what it says: "Selecting a favorite song, players are irresistibly drawn to 'catch the music'; by snapping up picks or vinyl disks that race with the rhythm across their mobile screens. Novice players start out playing in Garage Bands and graduate to Club Dates and finally Stadium Stardom as their skill increases. New songs and guitarists are available for download monthly and feature cutting-edge musicians, bands, and songs."

Now, it's not 100 per cent certain that Guitar Hero Mobile will be a rebadged version of PyroSonix. But it seems logical that many of those features will make it into the new game – including hopefully those monthly downloads.

Whether or not we'll get them over here in Europe is anybody's guess, of course. For now, check out Sonivox's PyroSonix page, and watch a video of PyroSonix in action.
