Greystripe signs deal for ad-funded titles

Free Golden Axe! I repeat, free Golden Axe!

Man, Golden Axe was great when I was a teenager. The only reason I haven't dared play it on a modern emulator is the danger of ruining those happy memories if it's dated badly.

But as a free mobile download? That's severely tempting. It's one of three games that have been announced as part of a deal between Sega and ad-funded mobile games firm Greystripe. The other two are Sonic Jump and Afterburner II.

Greystripe will offer these for free download on its GameJump portal, as well as through the 50 ad-funded portals it runs for other companies. Sega joins the likes of Digital Chocolate, Vivendi Games Mobile and Hands-On Mobile in Greystripe's catalogue.

The deal's been signed with Sega in the US, where it's a mobile publisher in its own right. It's unclear whether the three games will be available to European gamers through Greystripe's channels, since over here Glu has a licensing deal with Sega for mobile games (and it hasn't signed up with Greystripe).
