EA Mobile is keen to launch its own mobile game subscription service, charging people the price of a single paid download every month (i.e. a fiver) for up to five downloads.

"The kind of subscription we are thinking about is that you'd subscribe to an EA channel, and you can download five games a month maybe, and the price for that might be similar to what you'd pay per download now," says Javier Ferreira, in an interview on PocketGamer.biz.

EA clearly believes gamers haven't been put off subscriptions by past scandals around ringtone and wallpaper services, which fleeced thousands of mobile users with less-than-transparent pricing models.

However, it's unclear whether EA Mobile will launch this kind of service off its own back, or do it through the mobile operators. Or, indeed, both.

The problem with this kind of publisher-focused service is that it presents a problem if you want to get games from a variety of publishers.

Say Gameloft, Glu Mobile and I-play were to launch similar services, would a keen gamer be prepared to spend £20 a month for access to all four?

But let us know your thoughts: would you sign up to a £5 monthly EA Mobile subscription? And if you want to read Ferreira's thoughts on the 3G iPhone, connected multiplayer games, and touchscreen titles, click here.
