EA Mobile acquires mobile rights to Deal or No Deal

Having consulted at length with the banker

Product: Deal or No Deal (2008) | Developer: Typhon Mobile | Publisher: EA Mobile | Genre: Casual, Film/ TV tie- in
Today, somewhere in London, a representative from EA Mobile looked across a table at a representative from Endemol and said, "deal, or no deal?"

And the Endemol representative said, "deal."

Strictly speaking, this might not actually have happened, but it should have because EA Mobile has today announced that it has obtained the rights to publish a mobile game based on Endemol's Deal or No Deal television series.

Gameloft previously had this privilege, publishing Deal or No Deal almost two years ago, since which time it has become the biggest selling mobile title ever.

EA Mobile is understandably pleased. "We are excited to have the chance to work on one of the most successful TV properties of recent years," says Javier Ferreira, VP of European Publishing. "Deal or No Deal is a phenomenally successful programme, particularly in the UK, and we look forward to creating games that will bring the true spirit of the series to a new audience on mobile platforms."

Jurian van der Meer, Head of Products & Brand Exploitation at Endemol Digital Media, is equally upbeat. "We have been looking for a partner in the mobile space to help bring this phenomenal property to an even broader audience," he says.

"We want to focus on our core strength, that of creating incredibly popular IP for a mass broadcast audience and work with global partners, such as EA Mobile, to take our TV proposition to new pervasive platforms."

Deal or No Deal the mobile game will be out in November.

Well I can totaly understand EA Mobile here. The need to get more revenues in for the next fiscal year and that can only be done by getting this license. It brings another 10 Million in revenue so big deal there. BUT this will probably not give them more net-revenue AND this will not show the enduser the quality of mobile gaming.
The funny thing here is that both say the game will be a great NEW way to the show. They will only repaint it and thats it. It's not a new mobile game, it's not a new idea only a different license owner. No big deal anyway.

Having seen many a sequel launch and die its death i'm not quite sure how many new users they're going to hit with this? Surely Gameloft have already taken the lions share of the properties revenues and at a rather better license arrangement pre success i'd imagine. Like A.S says, what kinda novel developments can we see with this brand? yellow boxes instead of red, a change of jumper by by Noel? Surely not Deal or No Deal Pinball...
