BlackBerry confirms Bold 9700

RIM's latest entry in the popular BlackBerry line has been officially confirmed, although those of you with a keen nose for this kind of thing will have already heard plenty about the new device.

Previously known as "Onyx", the handset has been given the official moniker of BlackBerry Bold 9700 and essentially replaces the Bold 9000 in the company's burgeoning line up of smart phones.

The improvements promised by RIM are many. Not only is the 9700 a svelter proposition when compared to its chunky predecessor, but it boasts a better CPU, a 3.2 megapixel camera, and lots more memory for applications.

Moving on from technical concerns, the 9700 will also be rocking the new OS 5.0, which features enhancements to the BlackBerry's already robust email client.

American fans should be able to get their grubby mitts on the 9700 well before Santa arrives, with the UK version coming later on.
