Have retro arcade games had their day on mobile? Not as far as Glu is concerned. The publisher is readying the release of an all-new version of classic shoot-'em-up Asteroids.

It's been released on phones before, a few years back, but this new edition comes sporting several bells and whistles. Obviously, it includes a 'Classic Mode' which is properly faithful to the original Atari game.

But there are also new modes and visual themes to bring Asteroids into the 21st century. Such as? Well, the Theme Mode lets you play the game with 'Modern', 'Techno' or 'Virus' graphics, while PowerUp Mode introduces, yes, power-ups.

Old-skool Asteroids nuts may be spluttering coffee all over their monitors at the outrage of someone mucking about with their favourite arcade game, but we think it's a good idea.

The game is due out in August, and looks like it'll freshen up a bona-fide classic. Click 'Track It!' for an alert when we review it.
