Mister Slime announced for DS
Less of a platformer, more of a splatformer
With a title like Mister Slime, you'd be forgiven for thinking SouthPeak's new DS adventure gives its starring role to Brendan from Strictly Come Dancing or ladies man Calum Best.
Thankfully that's not the case. Instead, Mister Slime puts you in control of a ball of green ooze that can be manipulated, stretched and fired about the place.
The game, which has currently only been confirmed for US release this April, is an adventure set in the slightly obviously named Slime Village. Its evil enemies the Axons have invaded and Mister Slime must protect his home from them.
While it looks and sounds like a fairly generic platformer, it's likely it won't be due to the game's unique controls. See, to get Mister Slime about you use the stylus to drag his arms onto anchor points, then stretch and ping him from one place to another. Being fairly squishy, you can manipulate him in all sorts of ways, too.
As well as using the touchscreen to get around, the game also uses the microphone in a couple of interesting ways. Blowing on Mister Slime makes him fly in the air, while blowing when he's underwater helps him breathe.
"We wanted to take an old-school 2D side-scroller and update it with innovative features and gameplay specific to the platform," said Djamil Kemal, development director at Lexis Numérique, the game's developer.
"The advanced physics engine combined with elasticity, and interaction with many different objects creates a very engaging gameplay experience. There is nothing else out there like it."
Both single- and multiplayer modes are due in the game although there's no word on exactly what multiplayer will involve. We expect to have more on this one once it's confirmed for UK release.
