Mojang 'digging' into Survival mode for iOS and Android versions of Minecraft - Pocket Edition

All the way back in September, Pocket Gamer reported that a Survival mode was on its way to the then-exclusive Xperia Play version of Mojang's popular Minecraft - Pocket Edition.
If you're still eagerly awaiting its release, you'll be pleased to read that Mojang's Daniel Kaplan has updated his company's blog with several new details of the forthcoming update, which the team is now "digging" into making.
"After the first initial launch of the Android version Aron started to port the game to iOS. We just wanted to make sure that the iOS version was on par with the Android version before continuing the work since it is quite complicated to deal with different versions with different features," Kaplan said.
"We have one small bug fix update that is waiting for iOS that is already out on the Android. So let’s move on. The plan now is to start digging into making Minecraft - Pocket Edition with Survival features!!"
Down, down, deeper...The plan - right now - is to introduce an all-new file system (that will ensure items and mobs can be supported), an inventory system, and an item system. So, you know, you can pick up goodies.
Crafting is also on the agenda for the update, though Kaplan warns this will likely go through several iterations due to a customised interface designed for touchscreen devices.
Finally, alongside some "overall optimisations", Mojang is looking at adding mobs to the game, such as animals and enemies.
No launch date has been set yet for this update, but we'll keep you posted.
