Mojang, the development team behind the PC indie sensation Minecraft, has revealed that the mobile version will not appear first on iPhone (as you’d expect), but will instead be an Xperia Play timed exclusive.

The game will naturally be re-wired (that’s what happens, I think) so that it takes advantage of the physical controller of the Play.

It'll be called Minecraft Pocket Edition.

No further details about the game have been released so far, other than that Androids and iPhone users will eventually be able to play it, so it remains to be seen just how much of the original sandbox mining/fighting/sculpting skulls out of mountains game will make it to mobile devices just yet.

We do know, however, that the game will be at E3 this year, thanks to the double whammy of an email from the developers and a Minecraft-styled Sony Ericsson email, so we’ll no doubt have more information next month.
