The first version of Mojang's Minecraft – Pocket Edition is now available to download from the Android Market for Xperia Play devices.

This version of the game focuses on the creative aspects of the Minecraft series, but only includes features "that make sense for playing on a mobile device".

Still, you'll get 36 different types of block, which you can cycle through using either your touchscreen or the Xperia Play's Circle and Square buttons.

These blocks, as you probably already know, can be used to build almost anything that you can pluck from your imagination.

Multiplayer over a local network is also present.

The blocks of life

Like its bigger PC and Mac brother, this bite-sized version of Minecraft will be continually developed with frequent updates and patches.

These will partly be based on feedback from the playing community.

Minecraft – Pocket Edition is now available for Xperia Play devices for £4.26/$6.99.

It'll be released for other Android phones and tablets in the near future.
