Taito muscles in on tower defence with Mikado Defenders

| Mikado Defenders

If there’s one genre that's under represented on iPhone, it’s tower defence. Fans of protecting a stronghold against an inexorable torrent of enemies have such a paucity of choice, it’s almost heartbreaking.

Thankfully, parched last-stand players can quench their thirst for blood in Taito’s latest, Mikado Defenders.

Okay, so we're being mildly sarcastic about yet another tower defence announcement, but can anyone really add anything to this genre?

To be fair to Taito, Mikado Defenders shows a great deal of promise. Set in feudal Japan, and sporting an attractive aesthetic which evokes the period (it looks a great deal like Okami), gameplay is deeper than the average defend ‘em up.

Players are able to deploy samurai, archers, and more in the field, whilst simultaneously developing a persistent base – from encampment to fortress.

Prolonged defence of your castle will attract Guardian Spirits, who will fight for your cause and prove invaluable allies. Their presence will augment your fortress too.

Finally, Samurai Commanders can also be deployed (in a manner which appears similar to Warcraft III’s heroes), who bring special abilities to you arsenal.

The game should be coming to the App store soon, so look out for our review.
